NWCFA Junior Cup Final 2014/15 – May 15, 2015
LLANDUDNO ALBION made history by becoming the first-ever Llandudno team to win the NWCFA Junior Cup in the competition’s 120-year existence tonight. It proved a tough battle to see off Anglesey League side Trearddur Bay, but the Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League outfit finally proved superior in the goal stakes after the extra half hour.
Albion shaded a relatively poor opening period and took the lead in the 36th minute with a magnificent 25-yard strike from top-scorer Mark Montgomery. The Bay came out early in the second half and Llandudno keeper Alex Owen was forced into making a double save before Jordan Jones levelled the match for the Bay on 53 minutes, hammering home from close range.
Montgomery missed a great opportunity to win it in normal time and come the end of 90 minutes it remained 1-1. Albion began extra time in dynamic fashion, Joel Lloyd heading home from a corner before Mike Chapman freed Montgomery for a lovely chipped finish soon after for his 38th goal this season.Trearddur stayed in the contest when Dave Webb pounced on a defensive mix-up on 104 minutes.
When Owen fumbled a cross in the second period of extra time, Steve Dreidyk was unable to capitalise for the Bay and that proved a key moment in the outcome. Albion sealed the cup when Dave Maddocks lifted the ball over keeper Mike Bentley from about 22 yards with a beautiful precision finish.
Midfield general Mike Williams was named man of the match and Albion will now target a treble when they meet League Champions Prestatyn Sports in the Vale of Conwy/Clwyd League's Presidents Cup later this month. Albion skipper Joel Lloyd in seen pictured with the coveted trophy
