NWCFA on verge to retain Regions Cup
A stunning performance from Chris Morrell's Coast FA Mens team against Gwent FA last Sunday means they took a huge step in retaining the Wales Regions Cup and kept alive the possibility of representing Wales again in the UEFA Regions Cup in Estonia this summer. Facing a top of the league Gwent side who were unbeaten with a vast selection area, Coast we're fired up from the start and within 15 mins had two good chances fall to Anthony Parry but couldn't find a breakthrough. Gwent came into it more but outstanding performances from Tom Taylor and David Evans in the heart of the defence gave nothing away and Coast finished the half strongly with Duncan Midgeley and Jordan Owen coming close.
The second half was more of the same with the Coast finally finding a goal with a Kieron Hildritch free kick which was closely followed by a class finish from Parry from an acute angle on 55 mins. Coast then soaked up a bit of pressure but killed the game off when Gavin Sharpe released Midgeley and the striker made no mistake.
Further chances fell to the hardworking Owain Robins and sub Darren Ishmael and after a late flourish saw Gwent pinch a consolation, however, Coast played out the game to take a vital 3 points.
The result now means a win in their last game will see the Coast once again win the Wales Regions Cup. Given that the Association has by far the smallest pool to pick from in addition to having to give up home advantage to play every game in Mid Wales, the fact that we are even in contention is a massive achievement on its own by ALL concerned.
