Prestatyn Rangers win 4 – 3 on penalties
In a thrilling match at Conwy Borough’s Y Morfa ground Prestatyn Rangers eventually overcame a resilient Llanfairpwll team to lift the NWCFA Under 16’s Cup.
The first half was a cagey affair between two team which were evenly matched with few chances for both teams. Prestatyn were grateful for an outstanding save from their keeper to keep the first half scoreless.
Prestatyn took the lead in the first 5 mins of the second half when Samuel Duffy took his chance in front of goal. Llanfairpwll fought back strongly and equalised through Gwion Thomas from the penalty spot in the 12 minute of the second half.
Both teams had chances to win the match but full time arrived with the score level at 1 – 1.
Prestatyn took an early lead in extra time when Joel Rowlands scored after 3 mins, however, Llanfairpwll equalised for a second time when Thomas Groves scored in the 4 min of the second half of extra time. Neither team was able to convert further chances to win the match, which finished 2 – 2 after extra time.
The penalty shoot-out proved as exciting as the match itself, when both keepers rising to the challenge when they saved two penalties each to take the match into sudden death. Prestatyn scored with their penalty and secured the win when their keeper saved Llanfairpwll’s spot kick.
