“We believe that Gareth will take Rhyl Football Club to the next level. In our discussions with Gareth it became very clear that he fits the whole ethos of the club. He has the ability to inspire and develop players and coaches which will strengthen our football club throughout. Also we have the structure in place for him to take the club forward as we continue to look for the most talented players both locally and across the border.”
Gareth Owen Commented today,
"First of all I'd like to thank the club, in particular, Mike Jones and Paul Higginson for the opportunity. Rhyl have always been a club which I hold in the highest regard after a successful season as a player and later as Player Coach. Playing in the Champions League with Rhyl is one of the highlights of my playing career so having the opportunity to manage the club was one I couldn't turn down. I have always been well received by the people behind the scenes and fans of the club, I now ask for them to get behind a new era at the club. The Director of Football role will not only see me as First Team Manager but also I will work with the Academy Coaches under Niall Mcguiness and introduce some short, medium and long term planning, a Rhyl DNA if you like. For me, this is about working with everyone involved to push Rhyl onto the next level. It was important that it was right for myself and family that the right opportunity came along and I feel I have that with Rhyl. I've been out of the game since early 2012 and had offers, but it had to be right for me as well as right for Rhyl FC."
Rhyl have also announced Mark Roberts as their new Head Coach.
Mark is an UEFA A Licence Holder and has spent severval years coaching at Liverpool FC Academy and a football development officer for the Wales Football Trust. Last season Mark was Head Coach at Cefn Druids FC and more recently he has been appointed coach education manager for the Football Association of Wales.
