NWCFA McDonald Award Nominee
2014 Welsh Community Football Awards, presented by McDonald’s
People's Award Voting Window Now Open
Having selected 60 regional winners across 10 categories throughout Wales, attention now turns to shortlisting for the National Awards. For the third year running there is one category which is going out to public vote. The six regional winners from across Wales in the Volunteer of the Year category will be entered into The People’s Award - a special award that gives the public the chance to vote and decide who they believe should be crowned the national winner. Amongst this year’s nominees are:
Bet Gunton - Llyn Eifionydd League
Over the last five years, Bet Gunton has been registration secretary for the Llyn and Eifionydd League in North Wales. Bet gives up countless hours of her time to make sure that one of Wales' most rural leagues can run smoothly. Even though clubs in the league are scattered across a large area, it is Bet's dedication that means that fun and engaging football is still provided for the young people in the league. Bet's time and commitment to grassroots football doesn't stop there. She has volunteered for many years prior to taking on her current role with the Llyn and Eifionydd League as both a football coach and at club committee level.
The Welsh Football Trust Chief Executive Officer, Neil Ward said: “The Welsh Community Football Awards, presented by McDonald’s, were designed to celebrate and thank the hundreds of volunteers who give up their spare time to help grassroots football grow and flourish across Wales. Without the energy, enthusiasm and continued dedication of these unsung heroes, grassroots football in so many communities would not be possible. The People’s Award gives the general public the chance to have their say on who they feel deserves this special recognition in their community and I would urge everyone votes for their chosen nominee".
The voting window for the People's Award opened on the 20th August and closes on midnight on Wednesday, 17th September. The nominee with the most votes will be named national winner at the National Awards Ceremony on Monday, 13th October 2014 at the Cardiff City Stadium ahead of Wales' Euro 2016 qualifier with Cyprus.
