the passing of a NWCFA footballing legend.
It is with great sadness that the North Wales Coast Football Association has been informed of the passing away of Mr John O Hughes of Rhostrehwfa, Llangefni. Affectionately known as JO Hughes, he will be remembered as one of football's greatest administrators and a true gentleman and servant to the game and will be sorely missed.
He became an FAW Council Member in 1973 and was a founding member of the Anglesey Football League as it is known today during the 1940s, playing a key role in the establishment of the competition.
J.O also held Secretarial & Treasury positions with the Welsh Alliance Football League and with this Association during its heyday. He was also a former President of the FAW and was part of the Disciplinary Committee of the FIFA World Cup in France 1998 and until his passing was a Life Vice-President of the Association.
He was also the founding Treasurer of the Gwynedd Football League in the early 1980s and repeated the feat when he took up a similar position when the Cymru Alliance Football League was founded in 1990. He had also been that League's President for the last 20 years.
He truly represented football throughout North Wales and up to his passing, he would not shy away with his opinions and thoughts in the most diplomatic of ways.
The thoughts of everyone connected with football as a whole in North Wales are with his immediate family and close friends.
DA WAS, DA A FYDDLON.
