Glantraeth FC Book celebration
'GLANTRAETH - THE STORY OF AN ANGLESEY VILLAGE FOOTBALL CLUB' is out now. A full colour 188 page book detailing the thirty year history of one of the most successful village clubs in North Wales. The book has been researched and compiled by club secretary Stan Strickland and includes quotes from players and managers through the years as well as many anecdotes such as an early visit to Machno United when a query about where the showers were located resulted in a club official pointing to the nearest river and a nightmare bus trip to Penrhyncoch in later years. There is the story of Llanerchymedd snatching away an Anglesey League Championship from Glantraeth on goal difference with a double figure win right through to Glantraeth knocking the mighty Bangor City out of the Welsh Cup and the Bodorgan village club being the only island club to ever win a Cymru Alliance league and cup double.....and much, much more before and since.
The book includes results, scorers and league tables from all of the thirty years and makes more than passing references to many of the main football stories on Anglesey over that period such as Llanfairpwll knocking Kidderminster out of the Welsh Cup and the meteoric rise of Cemaes Bay. Neither does it pull any punches when commenting on some of the more controversial issues that have affected the club.
The book costs £10 or £11.50 including postage from Stan Strickland, 6 Maes Glas, Bethel, Bodorgan, Anglesey LL62 5NW.
