Jones hat-trick seals FAW U16 Girls Cup win for Penrhyn Bay
A hat-trick from Ella Jones helped Penrhyn Bay beat Villa Dino Christchurch 3-2 at Aberystwyth Town's Park Avenue in a thrilling 2018/19 FAW Under 16 Girls Cup Final.
The side from Conwy came from behind twice to take home the silverware, ensuring Villa Dino had to settle for the runners-up spot for the third time in four seasons.
Both teams looked lively early on, but it was Villa Dino who went in front after 24 minutes, Niamh Warrender breaking down the left wing to the goal line before teeing up Gemma Prosser to tap home the opener.
Bay looked to respond, and levelled the scores in first half stoppage time. Winning the ball in midfield, Mia Rawling picked out Ellie Bradley down the right with a searching pass. Bradley then burst forward into the box, before squaring for Jones to equalise.
Amy Williams almost restored Villa Dino's lead just after the restart after she was played in behind the Bay defence, but 'keeper Jen Thomas was able to deflect her shot over the bar.
Williams though made amends seven minutes later, again latching onto a ball over the top of the defence and this time making no mistake, slotting it low past Thomas.
The lead only lasted five minutes though, as Jones went on a solo run after picking the ball up just inside the Villa Dino half, beat a couple of defenders and fired home her second.
Three minutes later, she had her hat-trick. Bradley was involved once more, again finding space down the right to break into the box and pull back for Jones, who turned and fired low into the bottom corner.
That proved to be the goal that settled the match, and the final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations from the Bay bench and supporters.
Huge congratulations on a historic moment for the Club and the whole of the NWCFA. Indeed, a proud moment for this Association.
